Electric Aggregation Update 04/24/2026
The Township’s current electric aggregation rate of 9.23 cents per kilowatt-hour will expire at the end of the June 2026 billing cycle. A new rate of 10.21 cents per kilowatt-hour has been secured through Dynegy Energy and will remain in effect through the December 2027 meter read, providing price stability for the term of the contract.
For residents interested in a renewable energy option, Dynegy also offers a 100% green energy plan—supported by renewable energy certificates—at a rate of 10.48 cents per kilowatt-hour.
Duke Energy has filed a proposed rate of 10.71 cents per kilowatt-hour beginning with the June 2026 billing cycle. Unlike the Township’s fixed aggregation rate, Duke’s standard service rate is variable and may change month to month. If Duke’s rate remains at 10.71 cents per kilowatt-hour, a household using approximately 1,200 kilowatt-hours per month would save about $72 annually through the Township’s aggregation program.
Opt-out notices will be mailed to all eligible customers beginning the week of April 27, 2026. The deadline to opt out is May 18, 2026. Residents may opt out by calling Dynegy at 833-241-4599, visiting Dynegy.com/optout and entering the code provided in the mailing, or by returning the enclosed opt-out form. You may also contact the Township’s energy consultant, Energy Alliances, at 513-794-5555 for assistance.
Residents who prefer not to participate in the electric aggregation program at all may choose to be added to the State of Ohio’s “Do Not Aggregate” list. More information is available at https://puco.ohio.gov/utilities/electricity/resources/electric-do-not-aggregate-list
Is the Township’s Aggregation Program Right for Me?
The Township’s electric aggregation program is designed to provide a stable, competitive, long-term rate with no action required on your part. Historically, the program has saved Township residents money compared to standard service from Duke Energy, while offering the convenience of consistent pricing and minimal oversight.
The aggregation rate is secured through a competitive bidding process conducted by the Township’s energy consultant. While many residents choose to remain enrolled for its stability, participation is completely voluntary. You may opt out or rejoin the program at any time, with no fees or penalties.
If you prefer to explore other options, the State of Ohio’s “Apples to Apples” website (https://www.energychoice.ohio.gov/) is a useful resource for comparing electric supply rates and plans.
It’s important to understand how your electric bill is structured. All residential bills include two components: delivery and supply (generation). The delivery charge—currently about $0.07 per kilowatt-hour—is regulated and remains the same regardless of your supplier. Only the supply portion of your bill varies based on the provider you choose.
When evaluating alternative offers, be sure to review the full terms, including contract length, fees, and cancellation policies. While you may occasionally see lower advertised rates than the Township’s aggregation rate, these are often limited-time or limited-capacity offers. Smaller suppliers may only be able to serve a portion of customers, and their rates may not be available once that capacity is filled.
You may wonder why the Township doesn’t always secure the lowest advertised rate. The reason is scale: supplying electricity for the entire Township requires a large, reliable provider. Smaller suppliers offering lower rates typically do not have the capacity to serve the full community and therefore do not participate in the Township’s bidding process.
