Electric Aggregation Update – May 12, 2025:
The timing of the electric aggregation program will potentially cause you to receive a notice that you are being transferred back to Duke Energy for your electric supply. If you are currently enrolled in the electric aggregation program and wish to continue in the program, there is nothing you need to do. You will move to the Dynegy rate automatically in starting in June.
The reason for the notice was because of a one month lag between the end of the old Energy Harbor program (May 2025) and start of the new Dynegy program (June 2025). Ideally, the new aggregation contract would pick up exactly where the old contract expired. In this case, being market driven at the time of pricing, the new contract will not start until one billing cycle later.
Electric Aggregation Update – May 2, 2025:
Duke Energy has published their electric rate starting in June 2025 at 10.445 cents per kilowatt hour. The Township’s aggregation rate with Dynegy Energy Services is fixed at 9.23 cents per kilowatt hour beginning with the June 2025 billing cycle and ending in June 2026. If you are a current aggregation participant and you wish to start in the program, then there is nothing you need to do.
The savings over Duke’s published rate beginning in June is 1.215 cents per kilowatt hour. For a consumer that uses 1,200 kW/h in a month – the savings will be approximately $18.25 per month and over $200 in a year.
When you choose an alternative electric supplier whether it’s The Township Program, or another provider you do not pay any extra fees.
All residential electric bills contain two components – delivery and fuel. No matter who your supplier is, the delivery fee is the same for everyone. Currently, it amounts to approximately .073 cents per kilowatt hour added to the fuel component. If you are with Duke, it will be 10.445 cents per kilowatt hour and if you are with the aggregation program it will be 9.23 cents per kilowatt hour.
Please note that the energy choice website and Duke’s own price to compare website often lags behind the actual rate. Its also important to note that different heating sources and amount consumed will affect the rate.
If you chose to opt out of the program, you must complete the required information prior to May 16, 2025.
Information explaining the program has been sent to customers. If you are interested in an all “green” rate – an option is available with a rate of 9.47 cents per kilowatt hour.
As a consumer, you are free to leave and enter the program at any time. There is no obligation to stay enrolled. More information on selecting an electric rate that works for your situation can be found at Energy Choice Ohio – https://www.energychoice.ohio.gov/
When selecting a rate, make sure you look at the term, fees, and cancellation policy. It is also important to understand that the supply rate is only part of your electric bill.
